Considering adopting a bunny?
Before bringing your rabbit home, make sure you’re prepared with the right supplies. Rabbits have unique needs, and the right setup will help keep them safe, happy, and healthy.
Bunnies require plenty of chew toys to keep their teeth healthy, stay mentally stimulated, and prevent them from chewing on your furniture or home.
Use this checklist as a guide for your first shopping trip!
🏠 Habitat
- Exercise Pen: Puppy playpen (at least 4’x4’)
- Floor Covering: Cotton rugs, blankets, towels, or foam mats
- Litter Box: Large enough for bunny to turn around comfortably
- Hideaway Box: Store-bought or a simple cardboard box
- Pet Bed: Small, padded, and cozy
- Litter: Hardwood or paper pellets (unscented, no baking soda, no cedar/pine)
- Exercise Space: Bunnies need room to hop and play—free-roam if possible (even one room)
🧹 Cleaning & Grooming
- White vinegar (safe litter box cleaner)
- Spray bottle (for cleaning)
- Cat nail trimmers
- Grooming brush
- Q-Tips (for small cleanups)
🥕 Food & Treats
- Large, heavy water bowl (won’t tip easily)
- Unlimited hay (timothy, orchard grass, or meadow hay)
- Quality pellets (Oxbow, Science Selective, or Sherwood)
- Fresh veggies & fruits (bunny-safe)
🎲 Fun & Comfort
- Bunny-safe toys (chews, tunnels, toss toys)
- A stuffed animal for grooming/companionship
🚗 Travel
- Sturdy travel carrier (for car rides and vet visits)
